Abstract
What happened to scholarship in medicine, has science disappeared, and where is the intellectual discipline of questioning, hypothesis testing and experimentation? And, in parallel, what has happened to the library, the research paper, and academic dialogue? This will not be a polished powerpoint tour de force but a bumpy ride through the potholes of our discipline and a critical look at the way we communicate. And, hopefully, not too prim. Yes, I will tell you the secrets of publication and how to make your paper appeal to an editor but, I hope to leave you with more questions than answers, thinking differently about how you present your research and trying to anticipate future developments in medical communication.
This talk will be introduced by Dr Greg Irving, Clinical Lecturer, General Practice Research Group, Primary Care Unit, Cambridge.
