Probably everyone’s seen these “thought for the day” notices on the Tube – often they’re witty, sometimes wise, but rarely do they quote doctors, and even more rarely do they quote contemporary doctors. (so well done @Oval Tube Station)
That Dr Kate Granger was quoted earlier this week, shows the reach of her #hellomynameis campaign. Inspired by the desire to improve the patient centeredness of every interaction between healthcare professionals and their patients, Kate died on July 23rd 2016, aged just 35. She’d been living with (in spite of?) desmoplastic small-round-cell tumor, a type of sarcoma, since 2011.
She blogged throughout her illness, published a book based on the blog (The Other Side), raised a fantastic amount of money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, and gained consultant status – any one of these achievements would be impressive. Arguably the longest lasting legacy will be the #hellomynameis campaign – it’s up to us all to make sure it is.
