The Medical Library is undergoing some changes in preparation for the refurbishment of the whole Clinical School which is taking place from July 2016.
The first phase for the library will begin on Monday 25th January 2015:
the removal of the paper journal backfiles.
The work should take 1 month.
This has 2 immediate implications:
- access to the upper level of the library (level 4) will be restricted .
There are diversions and notices in place, but please take care.
Clinical Students in particular, when going to the computer room on Level 4, please be aware that removal workers will be moving through this on a frequent basis. - the photocopier has been moved to the library reception area.
We apologise for the disruption –
please let us know if you have any particular comments or questions.
The other implication is obviously about access to the information held in these journals. The journals are being transferred to a “dark” store, i.e. inaccessible for consultation, until a planned new storage facility is built (planned completion date 2019)
Many of them are already available electronically – check the library catalogue http://search.lib.cam.ac.uk,
If you require an article from a journal that has been transferred to the “dark” store, we will be happy to offer a free service for supplying the article you need. Please speak to library staff.
We will keep you informed of further progress on all the changes, but if you have particular suggestions to make, please contact us: we welcome your input via our comments wall in the library, twitter, or more traditional routes
