As anyone who’s ever moved house will know the final week before a “flit” means that all those things you have to do become concentrated into “have to do now!”
From Monday 18th July the Medical Library will be operating from temporary lodgings, in the building opposite Outpatients. It’s called “Bay 13” but that doesn’t really help with identifying it – better to think of it still as The Clinical School (but just in a different place).
Things we’ve done (doesn’t seem much when you see it written down…)
- moved the Library plants to their holiday homes in the Moore Library and Library of the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies – thanks very much.
- cleared Level 4 of journal archives
- implemented an online request form and payment system for our Document Delivery Service – you never need to leave your desk to get the articles you need.
- lots and lots of planning!
Things for week of 11th
- Monday 11th July: art work will be removed for safe keeping:
- the molecular model is moving house permanently to the Whipple Musuem of History of Science;
- the busts of Humphrey and Paget will be moving to Addenbrooke’s to go on display there (more on this once the display is up and running);
- the oil portrait of Sir Clifford Allbutt is returning to the Fitzwilliam Museum for resotoration.
- Friday 8th July: Level 4 will be closed from as PCs are removed, and furniture is dismantled – please be aware there may be some disruption
- Friday 15th July: this will be a noisy and disrupted day as furniture in the Reading Room (where the books are) is dismantled and removed – we’re sorry for the disruption this will cause
- Staff will start packing their work stations
- a small collection of books will be packed up to be taken to our new home – we’re pleased to be able to offer some books for you to browse as well as a fetching service for any book that is left behind – use LibrarySearch to find the book you need (and we’re happy to help)
- Life will continue as normally as possible till 9:50pm Friday 15th – the library will be shut on Saturday 16th July.
From Monday 18th July
- our first day in our new lodgings might be a little chaotic, but please bear with us – we’ll try to get normal service running as quickly as possible.
- Book fetching will be available – we’ll get the books you need
- study space and access to PCs will not be available till early August – we’re very sorry about this, and will work to get these facilities available as soon as possible.
- electrical work requires the whole of the new Clinical School to be shut from 4pm Friday 29th July till normal service resume Monday 1st August – again, we’re very sorry about this, and apologise for the inconvenience.
This is what our new building looks like from the front – you’re bound to have walked past it and perhaps not noticed.
From Monday 18th July, come up the stairs and pop in to the new (temporary) Medical Library – we’d love to say hello.
