Our resource of the month for August was chosen to highlight the vast range of tools, apps, databases and more that NHS staff, and students doing training within the NHS (such as University of Cambridge clinical students) are able to access with an NHS Athens login.

First up, we reminded everyone how to register with Athens: go to the registration page on the Athens website and enter your details. The process will work more quickly if you register using an NHS email address (such as your Addenbrooke’s email), and use an NHS computer to fill in the form.

Once you’ve got the Athens login, you’re going to want to make use of the great resources available. The first we recommended was BMJ Best Practice, an excellent point-of-care tool that can also be downloaded as an app. You need to log in to the BMJ Best Practice website with your Athens login, then set up a personal account.

A key nursing resource, Royal Marsden Manual, is available online with your Athens login. We do have some printed copies available to borrow in the library, but not enough for every nurse in Addenbrooke’s, so we strongly recommend making use of the online version whenever possible.

Finally, your Athens login provides access to a vast array of subject databases, where you can search for literature to support your coursework, dissertation, and research publications, or evidence to support your practice.
