Our resource of the month in May was a collection of tools to help at various stages of the publication process. We asked for recommendations via Twitter and our comments board in the library, as well as suggesting a range of resources of our own.

Our first recommendation were collaborative writing tools. While you can use Google Docs for this, there are many other tools out there — we pointed out Authorea and Overleaf.

Our first recommendation is programs for collaborative writing and editing, to help with version control if you have multiple coauthors — don't rely on emailing copies of Word documents around, as this can lead to different authors editing different versions of the document.

Next up was Think, Check, Submit — a tool to help researchers look out for red flags that might be the sign of a predatory publisher.

Finally we highlighted SHERPA RoMEO, which is a resource which helps you find out a publisher or journal’s Open Access and self-archiving policies. This can be extremely important when selecting a journal or journals in which to publish.
