‘Printing the body: early illustrated medical books from the library of Sir Geoffrey Keynes’
Cambridge University Library, Entrance Hall cases, 14 June–13 July 2013
The first display in the two new exhibition cases in the Entrance Hall presents treasures from Sir Geoffrey Keynes’s early illustrated books on anatomy – from Vesalius’ groundbreaking De humani corporis fabrica (1543), to 17th-century works including Harvey’s De motu cordis and an illustration of the heart with pop-up flaps from Descartes’s De homine. Keynes’s collection was acquired by the University Library in 1982.
The new exhibition cases have been made possible by a generous gift from the Howard and Abby Milstein Foundation.
The display runs until Saturday 13 July. A virtual exhibition, with additional material, can be viewed online at https://exhibitions.lib.cam.ac.uk/printingthebody/.
