It’s been great today to welcome (back) so many doctors to Addenbrooke’s. There are some familiar faces, which can make a librarian feel old, but it’s lovely to see you all.
There are some great tips for new docs on twitter – follow #tipsfornewdocs which contain lots of words of wisdom, not least of which is:
Absolutely! Never be afraid/ashamed to ask for help or advice! #tipsfornewdocs https://t.co/barA71lXsX

and also
@DrAndrewRowland Remember “Hello, my name is…. I’m one of the Drs”. Never underestimate the benefit of saying your name. #tipsfornewdocs

The BMA also has top tips, including a video on changeover, and “you will survive”, their guide for newly qualified doctors.
And the Medical Library can help too
– ATHENS logins (getting them transferred from your old trust (login and follow the steps or get in touch, cause we can do this for you), or setting up a new one)
– access to the library (pop in, and you can register)
– Clinical Key (a great resource accessible with ATHENS)
and lots more….
- Access to computers and wifi NOT on the Addenbrooke’s network (and therefore access to webmail and other sites that are blocked on NHS intranet)
- Access to University of Cambridge journals and e-journals – additional resources that complement NHS ATHENS journals
- Books – borrow 5 books for 4 weeks
- Medical Masterclass – contact us if you’d like a password for this great revision tool
- Reference management and statistical software packages (endnote and SPSS)
- Help and support to improve your literature search skills
Just get in touch – happy to help.
